"He who starts behind in the great race of life must forever remain behind or run faster than the man in front."
BENJAMIN E. MAYS, BAPTIST MINISTER AND CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER
Native Hawaiians and the people of the Waianae Coast have been running the race in the last place. We need to give our most vulnerable people a reason to run the race and the means to close the gap. Our holistic approach not only provides tangible skills but also creates an opportunity to unravel the culture of poverty through self-discovery and personal development. Through the Makaha Learning Center's three foundations learning--Ho`oponopono, Ho`omau, and Ho`onua--students acquire both the trade-skills and life-skills that will solidify their potential for success.
HO'OPONOPONO
01
Heal &
Awaken
The foundational curriculum of Ho`oponopono has been curated to awaken the DNA inside of us and inspire talents to come forth.
Through DISCOVERY, students begin to understand that they are formed in the image of Ke Akua, that they possess gifts, and that they are priceless. Students experience a philosophical awakening, stop living singularly and start interacting as part of a body of people— a community. As healing of the spirit takes place, their outward reality is transformed.
The fruit of this new perspective is discipline, self-realization, drive for excellence, appreciation, confidence, excitement for opportunity, and the discovery and satisfaction of purpose.

HO'OMAU
Preserve
Perpetuate
Makaha Learning Center provides trade-training courses, educational scholarships, and on the job training that are relevant and applicable to today’s modern market. The foundation of Ho'omau is at the heart of the learning center. The goal of Hoomau is to preserve and perpetuate the dying trades. With the deficit of skilled labor getting greater every day, our students can quickly graduate out of these programs and demand hourly wages that far exceed the living wage in Hawaii.

PARTNERSHIPS
A God-Sized vision requires a team. We do not pretend to have all the answers or resources that it takes to create a movement, but combined efforts make the work lighter and quicker.
BRIDGING THE SKILLS GAP
Aside from Tourism, Construction is one of Hawaii's leading industries. If we cannot bridge the skills gap and cultivate skilled tradespeople, then we will continually lose our opportunities to mainland corporations. We believe that if we want to see the manifestation of something new, we must do something new. For years, we have been applying bandaids only to see the by-products of poverty increase at an alarming rate-- addiction, mental illness, homelessness, abuse, and sex trafficking.

TRADES TRAINING
FILLING THE GREATEST NEED
There is a need for skilled workers in four high demand sectors throughout the United States. The lack of qualified tradespeople, technicians and project managers add to the growing disparity in the construction field.
The Makaha Learning Center is committed to revitalizing the trades and offers a diverse set of skills programs, tailored for all ages. From STEAM camps for school-aged children to core youth classes and continuing education classes.
For more information about the trades programs that are currently under development, please contact us today. We would be happy to set up a personalized presentation.
