(Makaha, HI) – Makaha Learning Center is excited to announce the launch of its new Solar PV 101 program, a 15-week course designed to equip Native Hawaiians, residents of Hawaii with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue careers in the solar industry. The program, sponsored by AES, Hawaii and Harold K. L. Castle Foundation, will begin on August 29, 2024.
The Solar PV 101 course serves as an entry point into the solar energy sector, providing participants with a thorough understanding of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including:
- Site Analysis and System Sizing: Techniques for assessing potential sites and determining the appropriate system size.
- Array Configuration and Performance Estimation: Best practices for configuring solar arrays and estimating their performance.
- Electrical Design Characteristics: In-depth instruction on wiring, overcurrent protection, grounding, and other electrical considerations.
- Module and Inverter Specifications: Detailed examination of the specifications and characteristics of solar modules and inverters.
- Mounting Methods: Installation techniques for various roof structures and ground mounts.
- Commissioning Grid-Direct PV Systems: Guidance on safely and effectively commissioning grid-connected PV systems.
This course meets the educational standards of the North American Board of Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) for technicians. Upon successful completion, participants will have fulfilled the classroom training requirement necessary to sit for the NABCEP Associate level exam, opening the door to a career in the solar industry.
